Hyginus Banko Okibe is an Associate Professor and holds a Ph.D. Degree in Political Science. He is a Senior Lecturer at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Department of Political Science, and at the Institute for Peace, Conflict, and Development Studies Department of the University. He has made audacious forays in the academic space with numerous publications spanning different fields in social sciences, including governance, international relations, peace and conflict, and development studies.
He has held many professional, academic, and leadership positions both in the university and in the larger society. He once served as Acting Director and Director of Work Ethics respectively in the university, Acting Head of Political Science Department, the Coordinator of Postgraduate Program, and Exam Officer in the Department of Political Science.
He belongs to many professional bodies and associations, prominent among them being the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA). He was once the former Treasurer of the Association before his election to serve the Association as the Secretary of the Nigerian Political Science Association, Southeast Zone in Nigeria.His research orientation and pursuit of excellence in academics contributed immensely to the Research Grant he won, funded by the Government of the United States under the aegis of the Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding (SVNP). The program commenced during the summer 2022 (May to August) term at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC.He is very passionate about quality education and has served in the University Exam Ethics to promote academic discipline. He also served on the Exam Malpractice Committee for many years with a mandate of stopping every malpractice related to exam administration, the assessment process, and the final outcome. His records and impact have won him many accolades and recognition.Apart from career services, he has also shown commitment to serving in government to promote good governance in public and community service. He was initially appointed a Permanent Member 2 in Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board but is currently the Executive Chairman.He is also a guest speaker on political issues on radio and TV programs. He is happily married with lovely children, and his hobbies include reading, writing, speaking, and traveling.
Successfully completed and handed over a Report on “ENSUBEB Policy Guidelines and Implementation” to the State Government which was a fallout of the Cluster Committee that the State Government constituted to examine cases/reports of Teachers Cluster in Urban Schools and recommend the best equitable teacher assignment strategies.
